3–4 months out: choose your song, take your first lesson

Bring your song to the first lesson — or bring three and let us help you choose. Tempo matters more than sentiment here: a song you love at 6/8 time may fight you on the floor, and a small tweak (a different version, an acoustic cover) often saves the moment. In the first private lesson we find your natural style as a couple, test a few feels — a classic slow dance, a rumba sway, a touch of salsa or bachata if that's your energy — and set a realistic goal for the big day.

Starting early doesn't mean committing to months of training. It means the pressure never arrives.

2 months out: build the dance, keep it simple

Four to six private lessons is the sweet spot for most couples. We choreograph in small, repeatable pieces: an entrance, two or three signature moments for the photographer, and an ending pose you can nail every single time. Nothing generic — the dance is built on the two of you, your song, and your venue's floor (yes, we ask about the floor; dancing on a lawn in Carneros is different from a polished barrel-room concrete).

1 month out: dance in your real shoes

This is the step almost everyone skips and always regrets. Bring the actual shoes (both of you), and if the dress has a bustle or train, practice with a rehearsal skirt. We run the full dance start-to-finish until it feels boring — because "boring" in the studio is "effortless" at the reception. We'll also film a run-through on your phone so you can practice in your living room between lessons.

Wedding week: one light refresher, zero cramming

A short, relaxed session a few days before the wedding — not the night before. The goal is confidence, not perfection. You already know the dance; this lesson is about breathing, smiling, and remembering that the room is full of people who love you and want to see you happy, not judging your footwork.

How many lessons do we actually need?

The relaxed sway, elevated — 2–3 lessons. You'll look natural and connected, with a clean start and finish.
A choreographed first dance — 4–6 lessons. Entrance, signature moments, ending pose. This is what most couples book.
The showstopper — 8+ lessons. Tempo changes, lifts or dips, a surprise second song. Start four months out.
